The game came to life in the 24th minute when Wits took the lead. Defender Patrick Phungwayo provided the assist for former Ajax striker Vilakazi to fire the ball past Oscar Ramogoadi from 10 metres out.
2 minutes later Darrel Smith stepped up to take a freekick from 35 meters out and saw his shot rocket off the crossbar.
However, the visitors’ lead last just four minutes. Lindokuhle Mbatha’s corner kick wasn’t adequately cleared by the Wits defence and midfielder Sandile Zuke blasted the ball into the back of the net from long range to level the scores at 1-1. Sandile Zuke had been out of action for the better part of the season due to an injury, scored his first goal for the club which lifted the Aces fans.
And that was the way it stayed until half time, with neither side really able to fashion any decent scoring chances or even test the goalkeepers, Ramogoadi and his opposite number at Wits, Darren Keet.
Second Half
Aces made a switch at the start of the second half, bringing on former Clever Boys player Clifford Mulenga in place of Mpho Maleka.
The Zambian had scored the only goal of the game when the sides met earlier this season but he was to have no luck in his attempt to repeat the feat.
The majority of play was centred in the middle of the field and, as a result, scoring chances were hard to come by. The sides battled manfully but a lack of game time due to the long PSL recess meant both were far from their best.
In the end the game fizzled out to a fairly tame draw.
The result lifted Aces off the foot of the table into 15th position.
