Madoda Motha might have not scored a bucket full of goals since Mpumalanga Black Aces were promoted to the Absa Premiership, but the AmaZayoni strikers hard-work has not gone un-noticed.
This week the Davel, Mpumalanga-born striker was confirmed as among the nominees for the Jet Club PSL Rookie of the Month among six other emerging players who are making their maiden season in the Absa Premiership.
Other players competing for the Jet Club PSL Rookie of the Month with Motha are: Thato Ferland (Moroka Swallows), Zhaimu Jambo (Kaizer Chiefs), Matty Pattison (Mamelodi Sundowns), Ndumiso Mabena (Orlando Pirates), Sibusiso Vilakazi (BidVest Wits University) and Mamadimo Masenya (Platinum Stars).
At 25, Motha has in the past proved his worth for Aces, having created so many scoring opportunities for the likes of Clifford Mulenga and Mpho Maleka to finish off his hard-work.
With five league matches remaining before Aces wrap their 2009/10 season, Motha’s nomination in the Jet Club PSL Rookie of the Month could serve as a motivation for him to up his performance even more to assist AmaZayoni retaining their PSL status.
On Sunday, Motha is expected to be the centre of attraction as Aces take on AmaZulu in a do or die league match that is billed for the newly built Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
Motha who made his first professional appearance in an official match during Aces’ 2-0 defeat by Mamelodi Sundowns on August 8 last year is expected to form a deadly combination up front with Mulenga, Maleka and Darrel Smith. His presence will no doubt provide the Akis Ayiomamitis’ coached side with the much needed goals to beat Usuthu and bag the much needed maximum points.
Aces have also arranged free transport from Emalahleni for some of the regular supporters. Their cheer and passionate support is greatly appreciated by the players.
TK Masondo is nearly back to his best and together with a rejuvinated Sandile Zuke should give the Usuthu defenders much to think about. Aces are after goals and Clifford Mulenga, Motha and Darryl Smith will be key to Aces winning.
Aces have worked hard on their defence this week and this department has let in some soft goals - especially the one scored by Wits on Wednesday evening. Indications are that there may be some surprise selections which the technical team are keeping under wraps.
Infact we are told, Aces have a few surprise selections and combinations which hopefully will "click" come Sunday.
Aces currently occupy 15th position with 20 points, and victory over AmaZulu could see them open the gap between them and Jomo Cosmos while at the same time moving closer to the 14th position which is occupied by Free State Stars with 25 points.
