The boards’ decision follows a series of lengthy meetings with all stakeholders including club CEO Marc Grune.
"We, as the board, have all the confidence in our CEO to implement the agreed upon plan of action", said Mario Morfou, the co-chairman of Aces.
"Together with the specific input of the Head Coach, we have selected a core group of players which we believe will ensure our goals are met. This group is predominantly made up from the committed players that have played for the team during 2010. We thereby intend to continue
holding focussed training sessions with a manageable squad size."
The second group which is currently so disgruntled at the moment, are players who have either been disruptive in some form, are carrying injuries or are only completing rehab training and slowly returning to match fitness - the club therefore believes it to be in the best interest of all concerned to train them separately.
Aces do not want to air any grievances publicly and will deal with some of them appropriately in due time. It is however regrettable that players believe to solve their grievances and problems through the media. This actually only underlines their unprofessionalism and complicity in certain agendas.
However, for the sake of clarity, let us mention that players (no names shall be mentioned), have either refused to go to Cape Town for our last league match despite being called upon, disappeared for 2 days claiming to be sick without clarifying after first initial call-in (rather expecting the club to phone for the whereabouts!), at double training sessions suddenly contracting some mysterious injury before the 2nd session, showing scant regard and respect for the technical team, being dismissive, rude and unprofessional....and the list goes on.
On the positive side: the existing squad are completely focussed and are motivated to achieve our common goals.
The new additions to the technical staff, with their vast experience, together with all other assistant coaches, will be looking after all Aces players. The focus of Coach Mabusela and Coach Nare will be the selected evaluation group, however their input with the core will remain vital. All coaches understand our objectives and are fully committed to the bigger picture of Aces retaining their status in the PSL.
The selected evaluation group are obviously still employed by Aces and we may call them up into the first squad should there be a need. They have all been given clear and precise information on what is expected from them. It is also important to understand that they are not going to be training with a development team, rather at our development center, the only facility freely available to us. This has been detailed to all the players concerned. To state anything else, is being disingenous with the truth.
"Our CEO, Marc Grune, who has impeccable credentials as a soccer administrator, has been entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring a smooth process in this transition phase. We have all the confidence in him and together we believe that we have a winning combination and solution to reach our short term goals", concluded Mario Morfou.
